Chickamauga City School District is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. CCSD strives to provide an environment where all students can learn and gain the character, knowledge, and essential skills to be successful.
The CCSD Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines and expectations that outline acceptable behavior and the discipline procedures for students while attending Chickamauga City Schools. It serves as a tool for creating a positive school culture where students can thrive academically and personally while being held accountable for their actions.
Students shall participate fully in the learning process, avoid behaviors that impair their own or other students' educational achievement, show respect for the knowledge and authority of teachers, administrators, and other school employees, and recognize and respect the rights of other students and adults.
- Students who attend or participate in any event/activity while representing the school system, whether the event/activity takes place on or off school property, are subject to this student discipline code and school rules.
- Suspension precludes a student from all school operations, activities, and functions for the time of the suspension. Students in In-School Suspension (ISS) may not attend any school-related activity on or off school grounds until ISS is completed. An assignment of ISS is completed at the end of the school day on the last day of the suspension.
- Students under Out of School Suspension (0SS) or expulsion may not attend school-related activity on or off school grounds during the time of the suspension or expulsion. An assignment of 0SS ends on the morning of the next day after the suspension is completed or the morning after the last day of the school year if the suspension is at the end of the school year.
- School administrators have the authority to conduct a reasonable search of students, their possessions, their lockers, and their automobiles when on school property.
- Disciplinary cases involving possible criminal conduct may be reported to appropriate law enforcement agencies.
- Students are to notify an administrator or staff member when illegal items are found in the school or on the school campus. Students are not to pick up or handle illegal or suspicious items.
- Based on the discipline offense and disciplinary action, participation in extracurricular activities and/or school functions may be affected.
Chickamauga City School District prohibits the bullying, harassing, or intimidating of any student, by any means or method, at school, on school property, or at school-related functions; while traveling to or from school activities on a school bus; off-campus when the behavior results in a disruption to the school environment; or by use of data or software that is accessed through a District computer, computer system, computer network, or other electronic technology of the District. It also applies to acts of cyberbullying.
Bullying may be reported by a student, parent, guardian, or other stakeholder to an administrator, teacher, counselor, or other staff member at the student's school. Any employee to whom bullying is reported, who witnesses an incident of bullying or who otherwise learns that a student is being bullied must promptly notify the principal or designee. The district prohibits retaliation against any person who reports bullying or participates in an investigation of bullying. Any report of retaliation for reporting bullying will also be investigated and addressed. Schools shall keep reports of bullying confidential to the extent consistent with a thorough investigation.
Upon receipt of any report of bullying, the principal or designee will direct an investigation involving appropriate personnel. The principal or designee shall ensure that proper documentation is maintained throughout the investigation and resolution of the matter. The school shall keep reports of bullying and results of the investigation confidential.
Acts of bullying shall be punished by a range of consequences through the progressive discipline process, as stated in the Code of Conduct and Board Policy. However, upon a finding by the disciplinary hearing officer, panel, or tribunal that a student in grades 6-12 has committed the offense of bullying for the third time in a school year, the student could be assigned to an alternative school, receive a long term suspension, or expulsion.
The Student Code of Conduct and Student Conduct-Progressive Discipline Procedures can be accessed at the links below. Students and their parents need to know, understand, and support the Student Code of Conduct in order to have a successful educational experience at Chickamauga City Schools.

Student Attendance:
School attendance is crucial for a student's academic success and personal development. By prioritizing attendance, students and their families contribute to a solid foundation for lifelong learning and personal development. When students attend school regularly, they tend to perform better academically. Regular attendance helps students stay on track with their learning, avoid falling behind, and build strong relationships with teachers and classmates. It also prepares them for future responsibilities in the workplace, where consistency and punctuality are highly valued. Overall, good attendance is a key factor in a student's educational journey and long-term success.
The links below outline in detail the student attendance policy and procedures regarding excused and unexcused absences, parent notes, tardies and early checkouts, and makeup work.
Schools realize that occasionally it is necessary to schedule dental or doctor appointments during the school day. To help reduce the number of absences for your student and help support consistent attendance this should be kept to a minimum. Parents are urged to arrange dental and doctor visits for well health issues outside of school hours. In addition, it is encouraged to schedule vacations, trips, and other appointments during school breaks.

Board of Education employees have the authority to give a student reasonable instructions and to expect that those instructions be carried out. Refusal to identify oneself or to carry out reasonable instructions may result in serious disciplinary action.
Illegal Items
- Students are to notify an administrator or staff member when illegal items are found in the school building or on the school campus. Students are advised not to pick up items or to handle illegal items.

Principal’s Discretion
- When a disposition notes that schools may have “principal’s discretion” in dealing with an infraction, that distinction shall also be interpreted as a “school administrator.”
Progressive Discipline
- Progressive discipline processes are designed to create the expectation that the degree of discipline will be in proportion to the severity of the behavior leading to the discipline, that the previous discipline history of the student being disciplined and other relevant factors will be considered, and that all due process procedures required by federal and state law will be followed.
Prosecution
- Students and parents shall understand that when misconduct constitutes a violation of local, state, or federal law, law enforcement agencies may be contacted, and prosecution may be sought.
Mandatory Tutoring
- Students may be required to attend mandatory tutoring sessions arranged by teachers or administration to help improve their grades and/or address class absences. Failure to attend these mandatory sessions will result in disciplinary action.
Search
- School administrators and/or their authorized representatives possess the authority to conduct reasonable search of students, their possessions, their lockers, or their vehicles when on school property. The administrator is required to have only reasonable suspicion to conduct such searches. Parent consent is not required prior to search. A student’s failure to permit searches will be considered grounds for disciplinary action.
Trespassing
- Students under suspension or expulsion are not allowed on any Chickamauga City Schools property or at any Chickamauga City Schools function unless express written consent has been granted by the principal of the school the student attends (or last attended if under expulsion).
True Blue Academic Incentive Program

CHICKAMAUGA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
STUDENT DRESS CODE 2025-2026The Chickamauga City Schools Board of Education supports a learning environment which is safe, conducive to learning, and free of distractions. A student’s dress and personal appearance should reflect pride in self and school. It is our hope that students will leave Chickamauga City Schools with an understanding that “appropriate dress” is determined by the event or function a person is attending. A dress code has been established for Chickamauga City Schools to help set the proper atmosphere for learning to take place. Students are required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, neatness, and conservative standards of dress and appearance. Your cooperation in providing a positive climate for learning is appreciated. Your child will be expected to follow the dress standards as they are written. If a student does not comply with the dress code, he/she will be removed from class until the dress is acceptable. Absences from class for violations will be considered unexcused absences. Parents and/or guardians may have to bring clothes to school to help the student reach compliance.
GUIDELINES FOR DRESS AND GROOMING:
- Any appearance which is disruptive to the educational process is prohibited.
- Clothes will be in good taste, size appropriate, and will not be revealing. Clothing will not have holes.
- Students should only wear shorts in P.E. class (except grades K-5).
- Skirts, skorts and shorts must be at least mid-thigh length and cannot have holes or have splits that expose the thigh.
- Leggings, jeggings, and yoga pants are not allowed (except grades K-5).

- Students who wear trousers or slacks that have belt loops must wear a belt.
- Tee shirts must be tucked in. Jerseys may be worn over acceptable attire but must be tucked in.
- No students’ shirt is to be bloused out to give the appearance of being tucked in. Shirts worn as a jacket must be tucked in if they do not have a straight edge hem.
- Appropriate undergarments are required and should not be visible.
- Clothing with the American flag improperly displayed is not allowed.
- Clothing with profanity, lewd pictures, symbols that are controversial and may be offensive to others, suggestive slogans or advertisements, or logos of items illegal for younger students to purchase (alcohol, tobacco, drugs, etc.) is not allowed. All students must be within dress code at all times. No student shall dress or groom where the effect, in the administrator’s opinion, is inappropriate for school.
DRESS CODE SUBJECT TO REVISION

Fundraising
- Raising funds by selling products is essential to carry out the varied activities that have made Gordon Lee Middle School a quality school. All Fundraising efforts must be approved by the Chickamauga City Board of Education and will be monitored by the school administration for effectiveness and duration.
Wellness Policy
- In the interest of overall student health and well-being, the goal of the Chickamauga City Schools is to promote healthy schools by supporting wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning environment. Student Wellness is a concern of the administrators, teachers and staff; therefore, vending and drink machines will meet standards as set forth in Board of Education policy. No carbonated drinks or outside food from restaurants or other establishments will be permitted in the building including the lunch period. Individual student parties are not permitted during the school day.
Food/Drinks/Gum
- Bottled water in a clear container will be allowed in the classroom with teacher permission (no glass containers are allowed). No carbonated drinks or other items from restaurants or other establishments will be permitted in the building. To assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the school campus gum is prohibited. A warning may be issued to students that have gum on campus for the first offense. Any additional offense may result in further administrative action including In-School Suspension (progressive discipline procedures may be used).
-
Students in grades 6-8 are only allowed to use cell phones before and after school. Students may still carry cell phones in purses or backpacks, yet they must always be turned off and out of sight during the school day. The school day includes, but is not limited to, lunch, class change, break time, school assemblies, field trips, and any other structured or non-structured instructional activity that occurs during the school day. Students are not allowed to use cell phones in the restrooms, lunchroom, hallways, or common areas during the school day. Students are not allowed to have cell phone ringers on silent alerts or send text or any other type of messages during the school day. This includes smart watches and other communication devices. Students will be allowed to use the school phones in the classrooms and main office for emergency situations.
Additional Restrictions
All students are prohibited from using cell phones to make non-academic video recordings at school, to cheat or plagiarize, to bully or haze others, to disrupt the learning environment, to view pornographic, vulgar, or inappropriate content, to post derogatory content on social media sites, or take unsolicited or unwelcome photographs of students, staff or facilities. Students must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and the District Appropriate Use Policy while using their cell phone at school. Cell phones may not be used for commercial purposes or “for-Profit” activities. It is prohibited for students to send emails or other forms of electronic communication of libelous or inflammatory language, denouncing or harassing communication, sexually explicit language, racially offensive language, or impersonate others. Students may not visit any website with content which would violate the system’s Acceptable Use Policy or Student Code of Conduct. Students who inappropriately use a cell phone at school will be subject to discipline as stipulated in the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, students may lose the privilege of using or possessing a cell phone at school for a length of time to be determined by the school administrators.
Disposition if phone is used in class or other unauthorized times or areas.
- First Offense: Cell phone taken from student and returned to student at the end of the school day, and student assigned one (1) day of ISS.
- Second Offense: Cell phone taken from the student and kept in office during the school day for up to ten (10) days, and student assigned three (3) days of ISS.
- Third Offense: Cell phone taken from student and kept in office during the day for up to (10) days, and student assigned (5) days of ISS.
-
Resident (City) Students: To be considered a resident (city) student, the student must be a full-time resident living within the city limits of Chickamauga. The student must reside with his/her parents or legal guardian.
Non-resident Students: These students reside outside the city limits of Chickamauga and must pay tuition prior to, or on the first day of attendance. By Board policy, students are not allowed to attend class until tuition is paid in full. Tuition is non-refundable even if the student moves into the city only for a short period of time after the start of school. Out-of state students may be accepted if space is available and payment of total out-of-state tuition is paid.
Frequently occurring situations:
- Owning property in the city does not earn student residency status unless they reside on the property full time.
- Separated/divorced parents- Students must be full-time city residents to be considered in the district.
- If one parent lives in the city and one lives in the county, the student's residency will be determined by the address of the custodial parent.
- If the court awards joint custody and the student lives with both parents equally (50% of the time), the student will not be considered a city student unless both parents reside within the city limits. Students must be full-time city residents to be considered in the district.
- If families acquire a city residence, but do not completely move from their prior residence, this will be considered a violation, and the student may be immediately dismissed from the Chickamauga City School System. This violation could also affect athletic eligibility based on GHSA rules.
- Any change of address or contact information during the school year must be reported immediately to the main office personnel of the school and updated on the parent portal. This requirement is your responsibility for the safety of your child.
If you have questions or are unsure of residency, you are encouraged to call your child's principal for clarification. If violations occur, students may be removed immediately from the school system and no appeals will be granted. You are urged to act appropriately so as not to jeopardize your students' enrollment in the Chickamauga City School System.

In order to be in compliance with the Georgia state law, we need the following paper from your 6th grader. Before entering middle school, each student must have a new updated:
** Georgia Certificate of Immunization form (form 3231) **
The immunizations required are:
5 DTP, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 Hepatitis A, 4 IPV, 2 MMR, 2 Varicella (chicken pox), 1 TDAP, and 1 MCV4 (meningococcal).
**A new updated shot record must be turned in at the beginning of 7th grade for all middle school students!**
This form must be dated and signed, and, in the lower right corner, the clinic or doctor’s address and phone number must be written.
If you do not get immunizations for your child, you must go to the Georgia Department of Public Health and print out the Affidavit of Religious Objection to Immunizations, have it signed and dated properly and notarized. If you have shot records from another state, you must have them transferred over to the Georgia form. Your doctor or local health department should be able to do this for you. The state comes shortly after school starts and checks each student record. Each student has 30 school days to have the correct paperwork turned into the school. If the correct paperwork is not turned in by then, the student will not be allowed in class, and the school could be fined until it is corrected. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 382-3100 ext. 1006.

Effective July 1, 2025
The Chickamauga City Schools District participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. This allows the school system to offer free and reduced priced meals to students who qualify and to receive a federal supplement for each student meal served.
The Chickamauga City Schools District will provide balanced nutritional meals. The School Nutrition Program is a self-supporting operation and relies on meal payments and federal meal supplements to fund the program. It is therefore necessary to have a procedure for the collection of meal payments.
- Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced priced meal benefits each year. Applications will be given to each student on the first day of school. Additional applications are available throughout the year from the school office, the cafeteria cashier or the Superintendent’s office. Families may apply for benefits at any time during the school year or as household circumstances change. Applications can be completed on-line at LinqConnect
- Families are encouraged to pre-pay for meals with cash, check or online at LinqConnect.
- Payments may be received by the student’s homeroom teacher, the cafeteria cashier, or the school office. Parents may view balances, create low balance alerts, and schedule automatic payments online.
- The School Nutrition Program has a “no charge policy”. All accounts must be paid in full by the end of the school year.
- No student will be permitted to purchase extras or a’ la carte items without a cash payment or available funds in their account.
- Negative account balance statements will be emailed to the primary guardian listed in Infinite Campus. Statements may also be sent home with students or mailed to the household.
- Parents may call the Nutrition Office, at 706-382-3100, ext. 4008, to discuss financial circumstances.
- All previous unpaid charges will be subject to collections.
- A copy of this procedure will be provided to all households at the beginning of the school year and available on the school website.

Promotion/Retention
Students in Chickamauga City Schools must meet the promotion criteria established for each grade level to be promoted from one grade to the next. The local promotion criteria is based on the assessment of the academic achievement of students at each grade level as revealed in grades on report cards and on end of the year assessments of reading and math levels. Students in grades 6-8 must pass a minimum of 4 core academic courses to be promoted to the next grade level.
The school principal or designee may retain a student who performs satisfactorily on a state assessment but who does not meet promotion standards and criteria established by the local board of education. Students who do not follow the medication protocol may be subject to disciplinary action.
Allergies
It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to notify the school of their students’ allergies and provide the school with the appropriate medicine in case of an allergic reaction.
Campus Guests
All guests, including parents, are required to report to the main office to sign in and secure a visitor’s badge using the automated system. A driver’s license or other form of photo identification must be used with the automated sign-in system. After completing the sign-in process all guests must wear the printed visitors’ badge while in the building. At no time may any guest go to a classroom or other area of the building to see a student and/or a teacher without first completing the automated sign-in process at the main office and obtaining a visitor’s badge. At the conclusion of the visit, you must return to the office and use the visitor’s badge to complete the sign-out process (please do not leave the building without completing this process). To prevent an interruption of instructional time, students from other schools may not visit other school buildings during the school day without prior approval of the administration. Parents/guardians are welcome at Gordon Lee Middle School, and we hope that you will visit to eat lunch with your child, participate in scheduled parent/teacher conferences, and join us for the various activities that take place throughout the school year.
Field Trips
Field trips are an integral part of the curriculum at Gordon Lee Middle School. Proper supervision is a necessity. Students are required to ride transportation provided by the school to and from the field trip site unless special permission has been granted by the principal. Field trip permission forms signed by parents or guardians are required for a student to participate. Students on field trips are subject to the same rules of behavior as those students at school. In order for a student to participate in a field trip they must meet the “Good Standing” requirements. Good standing relates to grades, attendance, and discipline. The administration reserves the right to determine if a student is not meeting the “Good Standing” requirements to attend any field trip.
School Phone Use
A school phone is available for student use in the main office. Use of the phone is limited to calls for emergency or sickness. Students must have a pass from a staff member before permission to use the phone will be granted. Parents and students are asked to make all necessary arrangements for after school activities and pick up details before arriving at school. Students are not called to the office to answer phone calls to minimize the loss of instructional time.

Athletics
Every participant must have parent consent form, concussion form, and updated physical prior to any tryout, practice, or competition. Students must have on file a current physical examination prior to participating in any athletic activity. Students who participate in athletics could be subject to Chickamauga City Schools Drug Testing Policies. Gordon Lee Middle School offers a variety of sports related activities for students in grades 6-8. Students may participate in football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, track, softball, wrestling, cheerleading, band, golf, and cross country. As a part of participation, fees may apply and students may be required to participate in fundraising activities.
Band
The band program at Gordon Lee Middle School is a rewarding and positive program. Students are strongly encouraged to participate. The same academic requirements exist for music as for athletics. Students participating in band may be asked to pay fees and participate in fundraisers.
Extracurricular Attendance
Attendance should be a top priority of the student. The student should make every effort to attend all functions related to their chosen extracurricular activity. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the coach/sponsor prior to missing a meeting, practice or competition. Each coach/ sponsor has the authority to suspend or dismiss a student for lack of attendance. Participation in extracurricular activities and/or teams is a privilege. To promote student responsibility, coaches/sponsors have a set of rules, guidelines, and expectations. A student’s conduct in school may be addressed by the coach/sponsor. If a student is absent from school for more than half of the school day, that student may not be allowed to participate in the practice or competition for that day. For athletic purposes the student must arrive at school by 11:30 am and remain in school for the rest of the day to be eligible to practice or compete for that day. For early checkouts, the student must arrive by 8:00 am and remain in school until 11:30 am to be eligible to practice or compete for that day.
Cuts from Activities
Not all students who wish to participate may be able to do so. Cuts will be made, when necessary, on the basis of skill development, readiness for competition, and observance of the rules.
Tobacco Use and Extracurricular Activities
Students in the Chickamauga City Schools System may not have in their possession, any form of tobacco at any practice, any competition or to and from any function, on school buses or on any school property during the school day. Students may not use, possess, or distribute tobacco in any form while representing Chickamauga City Schools in any way. Additionally, items such as electronic cigarettes, whether they contain tobacco or not, are not allowed. Students caught using or in possession of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, or any similar product may result in disciplinary action.
Participation and Responsibility of Athletes
An athlete who is suspended from school or assigned to ISS can play or practice with a team on the last day of the ISS, it will be determined by the coach. If the ISS or OSS continues from Friday through Monday, the student may not participate in weekend practice or competition.
- Students under Out of School Suspension (OSS) or expulsion may not attend school-related activity on or off school grounds during the time of the suspension or expulsion. An assignment of OSS ends on the morning of the next day after the suspension is completed or the morning after the last day of the school year if the suspension is at the end of the school year.
Injuries
All injuries must be reported to the coach/sponsor and trainer promptly. We care about all of our participants and want to make sure injuries are treated. Trainers work closely with our athletic teams however, when an athlete is seen by a doctor or x-rayed, there will be a cost involved that is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. It is the head coach/sponsor’s responsibility for direct contact to be made with parents in the case of a medical emergency.
Quitting or Dismissals from a Team/Group/Organization
Any student who quits or is dismissed from an activity during a season cannot participate in another activity until the in-season activity is over. If the in-season activity continues into a play-off situation, the season is not over until the team is eliminated from the play-offs. Each participant is urged to consider the situation and consequences of quitting a team, group, or organization. Participants who make the decision to quit or who are dismissed may be subject to a review of the circumstances, reasons or situation by the administration, coaches, or sponsors.
Taunting
Taunting an opponent in a contest or from the student section is poor sportsmanship. Taunting can lead to an unsportsmanlike penalty or ejection from the contest, which in turn could end in a suspension from the activity for a period of time determined by the principal. The athletic department/coaches also reserve the right to act on a situation that involves taunting.
Transportation
During the transportation of students to and from competition, practice, or team trips, the student may be held accountable for their behavior. All students must adhere to safety regulations during transportation to and from activities. Examples are to stay seated on buses, be quiet at railroad crossings, and follow all instructions of drivers. All rules and regulations of the regular school day apply to the transportation of participants. All students must travel to and from events with transportation provided by the school unless parent/guardians and coach/sponsors have given written permission for a student to travel differently. Verbal permission will not be accepted. Parents and/or a parent designee may sign out a student to ride home with them.
